DfT ranked among top 75 in Social Mobility Employer Index

The Department for Transport is proud to be placed 41st in the 2022 Social Mobility Employer Index. The award recognises our ongoing commitment to creating equal employment and progression opportunities within our organisation.

Created by the Social Mobility Foundation, the Social Mobility Employer Index is a list of the top 75 performing employers on social mobility this year. Applicants are ranked on actions they are taking to ensure they identify and tackle development areas to further champion socioeconomic diversity.

At DfT, we want to ensure that our workforce represents and offers opportunities to the communities it serves as we build and maintain the transport networks of the future. In doing this, we aim to ensure that DfT supports and creates equal access to jobs for people from working-class and lower socio-economic backgrounds.

DfT has a dedicated Social Mobility Network and a talented team of Inclusion and Diversity champions. With support from the Social Mobility Foundation, our aim is to create representation in all teams, at all levels, and a culture of belonging for everyone.

We pride ourselves on providing our candidates and employees with more opportunities and we’re proud to see this reflected in our ranking this year. We will continue to build on this, to create a more inclusive environment across transport and beyond.
