My name is Kerry Watson. I started working for DVSA in September 1998 in the contact centre booking driving tests.

I have worked in my current role as a Project Manager since January 2019. The project that I am currently involved with is the upgrade and deployment for all staff to a windows 10 operating system.

When I am not at work you will find me cheering on my daughter from the side-lines of the football pitch or trying to stay fit at the gym. The agency provides flexible work patterns which definitely helps to balance home and work life.

The move to my current role as a Project Manager has been a huge learning curve for myself as it was a role I did not know a lot about before joining the team. At this point in my career I was up for a challenge, something new that I could learn and gain further experience from.

The project was fast paced and I didn’t have much time to get up to speed however I received lots of support from those I was working closely with to help me on my journey and get me to where I am today.

There are lots of learning and development opportunities available, over the past 18 months I have attended several training courses to gain qualifications in Project Management, the courses have been intense with lots to learn however I had the support of my colleagues and management to help me through them.

I don’t have a typical day-to-day job, one day can be spent in lots of meetings with internal and external stakeholders and the next day I could be travelling to a windows 10 deployment this could be to an Admin site, check site or a test centre anywhere in the country.

I really enjoy the variety of work that comes with my role, working with staff from across all parts of the business. DVSA has around 5000 members of staff who are based all over the country, this role has allowed me to be able to visit the majority of these staff and be hands on at each windows 10 deployment. Before joining the team I would definitely not describe myself as tech savvy, however with support and guidance from the team I was shown how to build a laptop and install software something I would never have thought I could ever do!
