What is it like working in a DVSA apprenticeship?
I started my digital technology solutions apprenticeship in January 2023 and haven’t looked back since. I love the blended approach of theory learning and having the chance to apply my skills in the work environment. Having tried university previously, I find it so much easier seeing the real-world application of my learning and feel so much more engaged and valued in the apprenticeship.
What is the most exciting part of this apprenticeship?
I love the diverse nature of my workload! I know it’s a cliché, but every day really is different and there’s always a new project with different challenges just around the corner. This fits so well with my apprenticeship learning, as we cover new topics and modules each term and I see it as a chance to approach my work with new skills and experience every few months. Keeping it fresh this way keeps me engaged and I can see the quality of my work improving constantly!
Why would you join a DVSA apprenticeship?
Aside from the obvious great prospects that an apprenticeship like this can bring, the support offered by my team and line manager have been invaluable. I feel like I have the freedom to bring things I’ve learned into my working processes whilst being supported in areas I’ve struggled. DVSA has clear goals outlined by the strategy and vision and it is clear that digital services and skills are a priority. It’s an exciting time to be developing digitally alongside the agency. The programme is aligned perfectly to my role, and it feels like nothing I’ve learned has been wasted. For me, my apprenticeship has been a gateway from a job into a career and I can’t wait to see what my second year brings.
