My name is Karen Newnham and I am Head of Business Analysis at DVSA.

My role is to provide professional leadership and support to our team of Business Analysts. Our team help to continuously improve our digital services and processes to ensure customers have access to world-class services. What is really satisfying is that everybody I know benefits from what I do. I have a daughter who is about take her driving test and so to directly witness the care and diligence taken by my colleagues is massively reassuring.

I joined the DVSA after hearing from some former colleagues who had joined DVSA. They talked about how valued they felt and the opportunities they were getting.  Now I’ve joined I have not been let down! Everyone is friendly and I get a lot of support from colleagues and managers to use my experience to drive excellence.

I hadn’t worked in the public sector before and had heard the usual warning tales about the bureaucratic nature making it difficult to make a difference. What it really means is there is a lot of focus on quality and processes are well-documented and accessible. I found this really helpful when I first started as it made it easier to jump in.

It feels great to get the chance to do a job that make a real difference by helping to keep Britain’s roads safe.
