What you could be doing in DfT’s Digital Service Team

We have a range of roles available as part of our growth within the team. Please see the roles below to find out more.

Head of Digital Portfolio

The Head of Digital Portfolio will lead a team of experienced staff to design and enable a portfolio (working closely with Head of Delivery and Delivery Teams) to maximise delivery of services to users working within resource and budgetary constraints. A critical leadership role with accountability for financial management and commercial controls of the portfolio, approx. £50 million over the life of the spending review period.

Software Development Manager

The Software Development Manager is responsible for managing, mentoring and motivating a joined-up team of software developers, data engineers, database and dev-ops engineers (within a matrix management structure). The team are allocated to software development projects, with a focus on Agile, DevOps, Test-driven development, Behaviour driven development and Continuous Integration.

Senior Delivery Manager

Our Delivery Managers are central to the smooth running of delivery within the department. Knowledgeable in agile and lean practices, you will be responsible for building inclusive and effective multi-disciplinary teams that can help deliver our challenging portfolio. Working with blended teams of civil servants and consultants you help us delivery digital products and services to meet the user needs of both citizens and DfT staff.

Senior Platform Engineer (DevOps)

We are at the start of our DevOps journey and looking for someone ready to use their experience to guide us and their technical skills to create the CI/CD flows that will make our software development friction-free. This role will have impact across our development and cloud engineering teams as you build the new ways of working that make getting quality software into the hands of our users quicker and easier.

Senior Software Developer

Microsoft Power Platform offers us opportunities to develop simple building-block systems more quickly and also empowers our citizen developer community to boost the productivity of their teams. This role will guide our adoption of low-code solutions using your experience to steer us around the risks, your technology skills to accelerate development and your soft skills to grow and support our lo-code Community of Practice.
