Platform/DevOps Engineers at DVSA
In this role you will Contribute to the review, design and implementation of technical solutions to enable the automation, deployment and operation of significant cloud infrastructure taking a value-based approach to prioritisation. Implement and maintaining infrastructure that is scalable, resilient, open, efficient, secure, and cost-effective. Use industry best practice and knowledge to inform assessments relating to technical tool selection based on investigation of requirements. Build solutions as part of a Scrum team that meet the user requirements taking ownership of the journey to live. Complete technical tasks from initial concept through to delivery to the production environment.
We work in an Agile environment with multiple scrums teams per project. You will be working to continuously improve digital services in line with digital strategy, all while supporting the product teams.
At DVSA we are constantly working to improve the technical currency of our digital platforms as well as proving the value of our public services. You will be supporting and transforming existing cloud platforms in addition to building new serverless cloud solutions. As such you will get the chance to test your abilities, broaden your skills and solve complex technical challenges for a range of stakeholders.
Becoming a Platform/DevOps Engineer
DevOps is not specific to developers or system engineers. It’s for anyone passionate about evolving practices, and technologies and willing to work in a collaborative environment where everything is automated to make everyone’s life so easy.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a sysadmin, developer, tester, performance engineer, support engineer, etc. You can be a DevOps engineer because you are already part of an IT ecosystem that is responsible for deploying and managing applications to production.
There are formal courses and “bootcamps” available but DVSA is working on an apprenticeship that will allow us to help you develop all the skills needed to start your career as a platform/DevOps engineer.
