Our work

The Commercial Directorate is responsible for managing all Commercial activity at DVLA. This includes: procurement of goods and services; contract management; supplier relationship management, commercial policy and procedures; procurement assurance; data sharing contracts and compliance.

The Directorate also has other teams such as the Inventory Control Unit, Logistics and Storage and Personalised Registrations. ICU are responsible for monitoring the usage and stock levels of externally printed items. L&S are responsible for providing the DVLA with an efficient and effective inventory management and distribution service. The PR team are responsible for meeting Treasury income targets through the sale of personalised registrations. The Directorate is fully aligned with the DVLA strategy by providing excellent services.

Our people

There are over 140 staff in CD based across three locations. Many have obtained professional memberships including Procurement and Supply (CIPS) supported by DVLA. We hold regular team meetings, Directorate cascades and everyone has a monthly one to one meeting with their line manager. We support personal development through courses and our own Civil Service award winning development programme called CLASS (Commercial Leadership and Skills Support) which is now in its third year.

Our workplace

We hold regular staff events and Away Days, which are opportunities for everyone to meet, share success and promote best practice. We have a staff engagement group who actively encourage staff participation, promote innovation and feedback to continuously improve our staff and customer experience.
